Richard Passes Thesis Defense!

Richard Passes Thesis Defense!

Congratulations, Richard!

Richard has successfully defended his thesis! Richard arrived in the Bent Group after doing his undergraduate studies in chemistry at Purdue University, and he's focused his work on molecular layer deposition (MLD), the organic analog of ALD. He has developed several new material syntheses by MLD, including a photo-activated MLD process that involves the creation of carbon-carbon bonds and a silicon oxycarbide hybrid material. He has demonstrated patterning capabilities of his photo-activated MLD, and has successfully used it for blocking in area-selective ALD. In addition, he has studied using self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) to selectively deposit his MLD materials, and all of these applications are very useful to the microelectronics industry. He has been the number one safety person in the group for quite some time, and we look up to him as a great mentor and as a friend. He will be moving on to a position at Agilent Technologies, and we will miss him. We wish you all the best, Richard!
